Die Uhrenmanufaktur NOMOS Glashütte engagiert sich für den Erhalt der Demokratie. Warum dies gerade in der aktuellen Zeit so wichtig ist und wie Unternehmen dazu einen wichtigen Beitrag leisten können? Dazu haben wir mit NOMOS-Geschäftsführerin Judith Borowski gesprochen.
Judith Borowski ist Geschäftsführerin von NOMOS Glashütte. Wir wollten von ihr mehr über die wichtige Initiative "Business Council for Democracy" erfahren, bei welcher NOMOS seit deren Gründung 2020 aktiv ist.
Liebe Frau Borowski, NOMOS Glashütte ist Teil des "Business Council for Democracy" (BC4D), für was genau steht diese Initiative?
Dass die Demokratie unter Druck ist, merken viele von uns. Und da wir "Demokratie“ alle zusammen machen, haben wir auch alle die Aufgabe, sie zu schützen; auch wir als Unternehmen. Der Business Council for Democracy (eben BC4D) ist ein Angebot für die Wirtschaft: Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmer können in professionell geleiteten Workshops mehr etwa über Hassrede im Internet oder über gezielte Desinformation und Verschwörungserzählungen erfahren und lernen, etwas dagegen zu tun. Es geht um Fragen wie diese: Was kann ich tun, wenn ich selbst Hassattacken ausgesetzt bin? Wie funktioniert digitale Gegenrede? Woran erkenne ich Verschwörungserzählungen und verdächtige Quellen?
Der BC4D wurde ins Leben gerufen vom ISD Institute for Strategic Dialogue (London), der Gemeinnützigen Hertie- und der Robert Bosch Stiftung. NOMOS Glashütte ist seit der ersten Stunde dabei, da wir schon vorher ganz ähnliche Workshops hatten.
NOMOS Glashütte war eines der ersten sechs Pilotunternehmen, die 2020 für die Startphase ausgewählt wurden, ist also von Anfang an mit dabei – warum ist Ihr Unternehmen Teil von BC4D?
NOMOS Glashütte hat sich bereits seit 2015 in Fragen der Demokratie artikuliert. Zunächst ging es um Geflüchtete, dann um die die gewalttätigen Auseinandersetzungen in Chemnitz 2018: Ungelöste Fragen der deutschen Vereinigung, aber vielleicht auch mangelnde Teilhabe oder enttäuschte Erwartungen haben insbesondere bei uns in Sachsen für ein Klima gesorgt, in dem Rechtsradikalismus und Aggression immer normaler wurden.
Für unser Unternehmen wollten wir dies nicht. Wir wollen nicht in einem Klima der Intoleranz leben und arbeiten. Und wir wollen aktiv etwas dafür tun, dass die Demokratie bewahrt wird. Gerade hier bei uns in Sachsen: 1989 waren es die Menschen in Leipzig, die als Erste für Freiheit und Demokratie auf die Straße gingen, die damals in der DDR viel riskierten. Ihnen verdanken wir es, dass es heute NOMOS in Glashütte gibt.
Was erhoffen Sie sich durch die Nutzung von BC4D für Ihr Unternehmen?
Dass wir weiterhin in Freiheit und Demokratie leben und arbeiten können: Die Demokratie ist aus meiner Sicht eine der Grundvoraussetzungen auch unseres Wirtschaftens. Ohne geht es nicht. In den BC4D-Workshops werden Mitarbeitende zu Fragen der digitalen Kommunikation geschult – interaktiv und anhand von konkreten Beispielen und Übungen. Wir wünschen uns, dass dieses Rüstzeugs allen hilft, sich – oder auch ihre Kinder vor Hass und Anfeindungen zu schützen. Und wir glauben, dass Menschen, die mehr wissen, auch in der Lage sind, sich selbst ein Urteil zu bilden und so gefeit sind davor, Opfer etwa von Desinformation zu werden. Schließlich jedoch profitieren wir natürlich auch ganz direkt, bei der Arbeit, von selbstbewussten Mitarbeitenden, die selbstständig denken, die hinterfragen – ob im Vertrieb oder in der Serviceabteilung, im Einkauf oder in der Kommunikation.
Was macht den "Business Council for Democracy" Ihrer Meinung nach so besonders?
Das Internet wird immer wichtiger, doch Kompetenzen für einen souveränen Umgang damit fehlen häufig. Lernangebote, die es gibt, erreichen vor allem Kinder und Jugendliche. Die Workshops des BC4D finden am Arbeitsplatz statt und damit dort, wo die meisten von uns ohnehin die meiste Zeit mit anderen verbringen. Aus meiner Sicht ein idealer Ort, um mehr Demokratie zu üben.
Zukünftig unterstützt der BC4D Arbeitgeber auch durch Beratung und Ausbildung von Trainerinnen und Trainern dabei, die Schulungen im eigenen Unternehmen zu etablieren, etwa ins Onboarding zu integrieren.
Wie funktioniert das Angebot genau und was können Arbeitnehmer:innen daraus mitnehmen?
In den Workshops sprechen die Beschäftigten in Gruppen mit professionellen Trainerinnen über Fragen der digitalen Kommunikation – auch interaktiv und anhand von konkreten Beispielen und Übungen. Was kann ich tun, wenn ich selbst Hassattacken ausgesetzt bin? Wie funktioniert digitale Gegenrede? Welche Beratung, welche rechtlichen Möglichkeiten gibt es? Welche Folgen hat die digitale Polarisierung für unsere Gesellschaft? Wöchentlich finden Online-Sitzungen statt, bei NOMOS bis dato oft auch in der Mittagspause. Alle vier Monate starten neue Schulungsstaffeln – so steigt mit jeder neuen Staffel die Zahl der Arbeitgeber, die sich im BC4D für die liberale Demokratie einsetzen. Bis dato nahmen mehr als 1.700 Menschen teil – und außer NOMOS Glashütte auch Unternehmen wie etwa die Ufa oder VW, Bosch, Hapag-Lloyd, die Lufthansa, bulthaup oder die Otto Group. Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass alle davon profitieren. Ich persönlich habe durch den BC4D vieles gelernt, was ich zuvor nicht wusste. Etwa die Bilderrückwärtssuche, bei der man mit wenigen Klicks herausfinden kann, woher ein Foto wirklich stammt, in welchem Kontext es aufgenommen wurde.
